While the two may be on opposing sides, one Destiny 2 player points out that the Traveler and Calus’ story arcs are more similar than some might think.
While it’s not uncommon for some characters in the same universe to have similar character arcs, a Destiny 2 The player points out that the narratives of Calus and the Traveler have seemingly been built in the same place before its release Lightfall. The Traveler and Calus have both been prominent characters in the game’s universe for years, with the Traveler consistently atop The Last City until recently, while Calus’ influence has grown since his introduction in the original Leviathan raid . Whether it was Bungie’s design or a complete coincidence, it looks like these two are heading towards the same point in their respective stories despite standing on opposite sides.
Narratively, the Traveler has been a constant in humanity’s existence for centuries, as it helped usher in humanity’s golden age long before it began. DESTINY and Destiny 2. Players have seen it hanging over the Last City since 2014, though the end of Season of the Seraph saw it take a new position in high orbit above Earth and vacate the space above the Last City . Calus, in contrast, became a presence in players’ lives starting with the Leviathan Raid before serving as the focus of Season of Opulence and Season of the Haunted along with various lore telling of his history as a Cabal emperor.
Bungie has made it clear that both characters will play important roles Lightfall, with the Martyr arriving in the Sol System for his long-awaited confrontation with the Traveler while Kalos invades Neomuna on the Martyr’s behalf. However, Reddit user WaterDrinkerUltimate noticed that the two creatures’ arcs have landed them in similar places at the end of Season of the Seraph, with the only difference being which side they’re on. WaterDrinkerUltimate shows a line from The Witness during the cinematic season finale where he says that the Traveler has “nowhere to run” and how it can also apply to Calus. The conflict between The Traveler and The Witness has been building for years, with the lore talking about the many races The Traveler gifted The Light before he left and abandoning them to The Witness before the latter continued his pursuit. WaterDrinkerUltimate argues that the same could be said for how the Guardians hunted down Kallus after learning that the Kallus they encountered in the Leviathan raid was a giant robotic base for the fallen emperor. However, Kalos becoming the Martyr’s youngest student has seemingly put him in a position where he won’t be able to avoid a direct confrontation with the guardians.
It creates an interesting narrative connection between The Traveler and Calus heading into Lightfall, where both seem to be focal points of the expansion’s narrative. Bungie works to blur the lines between good and evil Destiny 2His story over the years, as seen mostly with characters like Eramis, Savathun, and Qrow. While this link could have just been a happy accident, it further blurs those lines and opens the door for further player speculation as to where DESTINY the universe is moving.
Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
