It’s a new week The bachelor, and despite the royal mess that unfolded in episode 5, Zach Shallcross is still positive … that he’s well on his way to finding his future wife on the show. Do not worry. In episode 6, Shallcross finally tests negative for COVID. But at the top of the show, host Jesse Palmer does explain that season 27 contestant Greer Blitzer has started testing positive since we last saw her. Phew! Although Blitzer is asymptomatic, Palmer said she’ll be quarantined in her hotel room until she tests negative, which means she’ll unfortunately miss out on all the fun (and fights) she’ll have this week.
Fresh out of quarantine, Shallcross reunited with his eager ladies in Tallinn, Estonia, for a series of outdoor COVID-friendly dates featuring castles, cobbled streets and big fairy vibes. We also saw an unexpected self-effacement and a new beef between the women, so you don’t want to miss the emotions running in Estonia.
Looking for a recap of it The bachelor Season 27, Episode 6; Wondering who made the two one-on-one dates? How did the group date go? And who went home? We got you covered. But beware, spoilers for The bachelor it is ahead.
Date 1 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Charity Lawson’s One-On-One Date
In episode 5, Shallcross’s COVID diagnosis forced him to cancel his date with Charity Lawson — a 26-year-old child and family therapist from Columbus, Georgia. To make up for lost time, he started his week in Estonia off right by asking her out on another date. Nice move mate. Since Shallcross hadn’t seen the girls in a while, he decided to go into their hotel suite to personally take Lawson and give his other ladies those big hugs he kept promising during their awkward Zoom cocktail party.
When Shallcross came in, the forecast for the week was clear skies. But when he and Lawson left for their date, there was a 100% chance of drama in Estonia. Why; Because Katherine Izzo not only “stole” Shallcross before the one-on-one, she kissed him (!) in the hallway, which left Lawson flustered and the rest of the ladies pissed off. Izzo’s “initiative” remains a running theme throughout the episode, but before we unpack that beef, let’s recap this horrible one-on-one. Charity has waited ENOUGH.
Shallcross and Lawson attracted the attention of Estonian locals by taking a horse and carriage ride through town. After tumbling up and down on cobblestones for a while, the two pulled over to take part in a strange Estonian tradition: a woman carrying a tender. Shallcross carried Lawson upside down on his shoulders (so her face rested uncomfortably on his butt) and then ran through an obstacle course trying not to drop her. (The women this season have really put up with so much.) While I’m convinced Shallcross was cheating by keeping her legs, I guess they won? So congratulations.
After exploring the capital a bit, the two met for dinner, sat down to their plates full of food, and exchanged meaningful conversation. Lawson opened up about a past emotionally abusive, manipulative, unfaithful partner and said that while the relationship was a serious battle, she is grateful that the experience helped shape who she is today. Shallcross thanked her for opening up, revealed that he also lost himself in a previous relationship (unclear if he was referring to an ex Bachelorette led by Rachel Recchia) and offered Lawson the rose.
Unmarried Feud of the Week: Brooklyn Wiley vs. Cat Izzo
Remember when we told you drama was in the air? Well, Brooklyn Willie had a big beef with Kathryn Izzo’s decision to pull Salcross into the room for a one-on-one preliminary smooch. Lawson tried to talk about her feelings with Izzo before the team date, but Izzo shut down the convo, prompting Willie to tell Izzo, “Keep your head up!” Izzo argued that everyone is dating Shallcross, so she had every right to steal him. But the other women felt Izzo’s timing was “indecent” and “disrespectful” to Lawson, so the feud is repeated at the pre-ceremony cocktail party. Stay tuned!
Date 2 Recap: Jess Girod says goodbye On a group date
Shallcross invited Brooklyn, Kaity, Kat, Gabi, Aly and Jess on a very topical group date in Estonia, which included a visit to an Estonian witch who vowed to remove negative vibes from the group and “cleanse” the ladies. It worked? Not even.”There isn’t enough sage in the world to cleanse Kat. If she was wise herself, she still wouldn’t help.Willie said with a talking head.
The main focus of the group date surprisingly wasn’t on the Willie and Izzo drama. It was Jess Girod, who had been on her mind all week because Shallcross hadn’t yet asked her out on a one-on-one date. With Blitzer in quarantine, Girod technically she wasn’t the last woman on the show without a one-on-one, but she was still worried that her connection with Shallcross was lagging, and when she arrived at the group’s cocktail hour she told the ladies she was coming down from an anxiety attack.
When Shallcross finally pulled Girod out for a chat, he told her he’d been feeling something about her since Night 1. He was honest with him about her struggles and assured her that being a late bloomer is okay, but she told him, “It’s hard be the last,” and explained that she felt like she needed this extended time alone to truly open up in a way that felt natural and forced. (Sidenote: THIS IS TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE!) Shallcross said there was a significant “disconnect” between the two and emphasized that falling in love shouldn’t be about taking one-on-ones. Girod disagreed, said she wanted someone to fight for her, and decided to leave.
“This is literally the last thing I expected with Jess…[but] It was the best thing for both of them,” Salcross said after taking her to the car.” I did not expect that. What the hell;” she said crying. The sudden departure shook him enough that he went inside and told the ladies that he would not be giving a rose. PANT!
Date 3 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Ariel Frenkel’s One-on-One Date
For Shallcross’ second date, he invited Ariel Frenkel, a 28-year-old marketing executive from New York, to the Estonian countryside for a relaxing day in…a nudist sauna. The two opted to wear bathing suits to sweat it out, but were forced to share the sauna with a naked older couple who at least gave them some quality relationship advice. Well… that’s it.
After enduring the “traumatic” experience for a few minutes, Shallcross and Frenkel escaped to the hot tub outside in the hopes of relaxing, drinking champagne and making out. But it didn’t take long for their naked friends to follow them and give them the romantic soak. (The production was working hard that day!) When Shallcross and Frenkel broke up to get ready for their date’s happy hour, Shallcross told the cameras that he felt like she could be his best friend and ventured to wonder if it could be Catherine Sean Lowe’s Giudici. His feelings for Frenkel only grew when she opened up, admitted that she uses humor as a veil, and shared that she had relationships that made her fall in love with herself. “I was like, ‘Am I sacrificing who I am to find the right person who wants to change me?’ Or do I continue to lead a more solitary life?’ Frenkel said. At the end, Shallcross gave her the one-to-one rose and said their hookup might be “the best surprise yet.” HUGE praise from The Snack.
The Bachelor Season 27 Episode 6 Rose Ceremony Recap: Who Got Home?
The rest of the women (minus Blitzer) gathered for the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party, where Shallcross spoke briefly about Girod’s departure before encouraging a fun, drama-free evening. Together with Gabi Elniki, they snacked on Estonian pancakes. He looked lovingly into Kaity Biggar’s eyes. Then he asked Kat Izzo if there was anything away from the date of the group. She assured him that everything was fine, which technically was a lie, because Willie was still waiting to go out with her for the stunt she pulled before Lawson’s one-on-one.
Before the rose ceremony Lawson asked to steal Izzo, and as the two cleared the air, Willie came over to ask if Izzo would do the same to Girod. “Sorry, we can talk another time, Charity. I won’t do that tonight,” Izzo said after Willie appeared. It’s clear that more will be unpacked here next week, considering Willie and Izzo received the final two Shallcross roses. So who went home in Season 27, Episode 6? In addition to Jess Girod, Aly Jacobs was eliminated during the rose ceremony.
