If you’re like us here at Decider, your mind goes straight to streaming when you think of Roku. The brand is known for its line of streaming devices that make it incredibly easy to watch shows and movies directly from all our favorite services on any TV.
However, like Amazon before it, Roku is now entering the smart home space with products that compete with Amazon’s Ring, Philips and others.
If you haven’t upgraded your home to smart mode yet, but you’re a dedicated Roku user, now might be the time. Roku Smart Home products are available in four categories: cameras, doorbells, lights, and plugs.
All Roku Smart Home products can be controlled through the Roku Smart Home app, which can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices. All camera and doorbell video can be streamed through the app, and if you have a Roku streaming device, you can also watch it on your TV.
All Roku Smart Home products are available for purchase at Walmart.
DOES ROKU SMART HOME REQUIRE A SUBSCRIPTION?
The answer to this depends on the smart home products you buy. The lights and sockets never needed a subscription.
While you can use Roku doorbells and cameras without a subscription, it’s recommended that you get the most out of all its features. Without a subscription, you’ll only receive motion, sound, and smoke and CO detection alerts. There is cloud storage, but only for images. Upgrading to a Roku Smart Home subscription unlocks premium features, including detection for people, packages, vehicles and pets, and you can store video clips in the cloud for 14 days after they’re recorded.
A Roku Smart Home subscription costs $3.99/month or $39.99/year for one camera. We think upgrading to the Premium Plus plan for $9.99/month or $99.99/year is worth it if you have multiple cameras.
ROKU SMART HOME CAMERAS
1. SE Wired Indoor Camera, $20, originally $27
Do you want to watch the kids during playtime or watch the dog? This Roku Smart Home camera can be your eyes and ears in every room of the house.
2. SE 360-Degree Wired Indoor Camera, $40
This camera serves a similar purpose to the basic wired indoor camera. However, it rotates 360 degrees horizontally and 93 degrees vertically, giving you an active view in any room you place it. It also has motion tracking.
3. SE Outdoor Camera, $73
Battery-powered and designed to withstand the elements, this Roku Smart Home outdoor camera was built to keep an eye on outdoor spaces. It has 1080p video, which stays sharp in the dark thanks to night vision.
4. SE Wired Outdoor Camera, $50
If you have power outside your home, consider a wired outdoor camera, which has all the features of a wireless option, minus the battery.
5. Floodlight Wired Camera, $99
This improves on the wired outdoor camera by adding two LED spotlights that shine 2600 lumens. It is ideal for darker areas such as courtyards or alleyways.
ROKU SMART HOME VIDEO DOORBELLS
1. Wired Video Doorbell and Chime, $60, originally $80
The wired video doorbell and doorbell work similarly to standalone cameras in that you’ll receive motion alerts when there’s movement in front of the camera, but there’s the addition of a doorbell. With two-way audio, you can talk to people outside your door through your home and place the doorbell anywhere in your home to hear one of 19 different sounds when the doorbell rings.
2. Wireless Video Doorbell and Chime, $99
The only difference between this and the wired doorbell is that this one runs on long lasting rechargeable batteries.

These work in the same way as colored smart bulbs, except instead of 16 million colors, they change from a warm glow to a cool bright light.
3. Smart LED Light Strip, $23-$45
Like light bulbs, these app-controlled LED light strips can glow in 16 million colors. They can easily be cut to fit wherever you want to place them, whether it’s behind your TV or under your kitchen cabinets. They are available in two sizes: 16 feet and 32 feet.
ROKU SMART HOME PULGS
1. SE Indoor Smart Plug, $14
Do you want your coffee maker to turn on at a specific time every day? How about turning on your fan at bedtime every night? These app-controlled smart plugs make programming easy. Plug them into an outlet, then plug whatever you want to time into it. These also work with Alexa and Google Assistant.
2. SE Outdoor Smart Plug, $15
The weatherproof outdoor Roku Smart Plug features two outlets that can both be controlled independently of each other. For example, you can turn on your yard lights while your holiday lights are off. Like the indoor plug, all programming can be done through the Roku Smart Home app.
